After your arrest, the officer will inform you of your legal rights. This means you can choose not to answer officers “questions or hire a lawyer. Lawyers encourage you to take this information seriously, as even the smallest details can weigh you down in court.

If you are arrested, you will be handcuffed and taken to the local police station for initial treatment. At the station, you will be questioned by police officers about personal data. This includes your name, address, date of birth and social security number. After taking your fingerprints, you will be taken to a central booking office where they will be processed for arrest or a court appearance.

As soon as the police officer starts asking questions that could implicate you in a crime, the interrogation begins. The request for your personal information is not considered an interrogation. The Miranda warning comes before you are interrogated or questioned.

Police officers are not allowed to use physical or psychological intimidation to get you to testify. Any information you provide to them is admissible after receiving a proper Miranda warning in court.

If you are charged with a crime, you must appear before a judge for a bail hearing. At that hearing, the judge will decide whether to save you or whether to wait behind bars until your trial begins.

Deposit is a fixed amount that must be paid before you can be released from prison. When the jury reaches a verdict, they notify the judge, the lawyer and the defendant in court.
